Conveyor Systems
Question: Can a service based business that designs conveyor systems survive long in this type of economy? A friend of mine works at a facility called Intelligrated Inc. based out of Mason, Ohio. They design conveyor systems by determining what form of conveyor system a companies need at their distribution/production/manufacturing centers. Intelligrated designs and forms all of the sheet metal parts and subcontracts the installation.
All of their business over the past 2 years has been primarily with one pharmaceutical company. This is understandable since all drugs must be made and distributed within the US due to FDA regulations. The problem is as with other companies that do this type of work, once the contracted work is done a new project must be found.
It is a service based company that has no patent protection. I'm afraid because they've only been working with a given pharmaceutical company it is increasingly harder to find contracts within the manufacturing, production and distribution sectors. That being said, it seems that it may be impossible over the long haul to sustain enough business for the company to survive considering logistics, competition, lack of diversity in contracts etc.
My question is whether this type of company will likely become unstable over the next few years due to all of the sourcing out and hollowing out that is taking place in this economy?
Answer: This is a global economy:
Certainly, the US has FDA regulations on pharmaceuticals and the company cannot violate that, but: what I suggest is that the create a satelitte company that designs conveyor systems globally. I would look to emerging markets in South America and Central America and elsewhere.
The answer to your query is that they can make it in this economy, they will have to diversify their product legally..
Question: Years ago I read an article about a man-made kayak park with a conveyor system. Has this park been built yet? The water entry point was elevated so you would ride the man-made river down until reaching a pool at the bottom. Then, a large belt conveyor system would carry you and the kayak back up to the entry point. You would not have to get out of the kayak. I read this years ago in a magazine, but I misplaced the magazine and can't remember any details.
Answer: There are a few. Searching around, I found a couple. One at Adventure Sport Center International in Maryland:
http://www.adventuresportscenter.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=74&Itemid=119
and one being planned in Perth:
http://www.whitewaterperth.org.au/pages/Plan.html
The number of whitewater parks in general have grown over the past several years, but most don't have a conveyor. Most of the courses I've seen are fairly short and include a couple park-and-play spots and a slalom course that spans a few hundred yards.
Question: Can anyone find conveyor belt in a grocery store? The conveyor systems. Like if you went to a grocery store and you put your grocery's on the conveyor belt, like can anyone find me what there called? cause I looked online and there all like have rollers on them instead of it being flat. It would be great if someone could find me it online and the prices! thanks!
Answer: I guess you mean a checkstand belt or system.
http://www.roystonllc.com/checkstands/
All conveyor operate with rollers of some kind, though. Either the motor is like a cylinder with the belt going around it, or the motor drives a cylinder with the belt going around it. I'm not sure exactly what you mean here.
In this economic environment, I'd look at places that carry used industrial equipment, and I'd watch for auctions of groceries or other retail establishments, since there will no doubt be a lot of places going out of business and selling their stuff.
Question: How is it possible to control a conveyor belt using PC? I think SCADA system is mainly used for monitoring purposes. How is it possible to control a conveyor belt system using just computers?
Answer: dude PLC and SCADA are the keys......
just place motors and position sensors on the conveyor and attach everything to a PLC and program it for the desired operation. The computer will monitor the PLC operation and the PLC will trigger the conveyor motors to run at desired time according to the Program.
Question: Electric Motor types for a conveyor system? Lets say for Airport applications what kind of Motors would be used to run the conveyors? for stop start conveyors used in sorting the baggage would they use DC motors? any idea of the type and power would be helpful.
Also for the ones that would maybe be running a large conveyor line like the carousel where you collect your baggage? would that use AC or DC motors, and Im wondering what type and power?
Answer: An existing system installed more than ten years ago might use DC motors because DC motors were most often used when speed control or slow acceleration was required. Today, 3-phase AC motors are used for most applications for both fixed speed and variable speed motors. The power required for a baggage conveyor is mostly determined by the length of the conveyor or the diameter of the carousel. They likely range from about 3 Hp (2.25 kW) to 15 Hp (11.25 kW).
The carousel likely runs at a fixed speed, but it might have variable speed to make it easier to deal with jammed up baggage. The sorting conveyors may have variable speed to coordination among a number of conveyors with baggage transfer between conveyors.
For speed control of 3-phase AC motors, variable frequency drives (VFD) are used. http://www.vfdriveinfo.com/
Question: What is a ocean’s circulation system (ocean conveyor belt)? It was used in a sentence like this:
The ocean’s circulation system (ocean conveyor belt) could be permanently changed, causing a mini-ice age in Western Europe.
Answer: It's another term for thermohaline circulation (THC), which "refers to the part of the large-scale ocean circulation that is thought to be driven by global density gradients created by surface heat and freshwater fluxes."
Question: Does anyone know what kind of system sushi conveyor belt uses to know when something is missing from the belt? I mean like usually at a sushi bar with a belt they have a fix system in place to know if all the menu is on the bar how do they check to see whats missing to replenish the bar??
Always wondered bout that?
Answer: The chef see's an empty spot on the conveyor belt and puts something there.
Question: My business has storage downstairs. The stairs are in a 90 degree L shape. Is there a conveyor belt system? What I am looking for is a gravity conveyor system that can be built into the wall of the stairwell with a 90 degree curve. If there are other solutions out there please direct me to them. I don't want to break my back taking supplies down and back up again.
Answer: Well, I don't know about a 90, but, if you take two of the straight roller types, and put them at 90 to each other, that would work, but, somebody has to bring them back up, eventually.
Question: which conveyor system is suitable? which drive is suitable for a conveyor system having the load of 100tons, electrical or pneumatics or hydraulics.. and why?.. pls state the advantages over the other.
Answer: depndz on the application
elctrical system are cheaper and easy to mntain,, while the other two are costly,,,
pnumtc n hydraulic need so many additional equipmnts to be installed
if already the setup is having those thing and can have additional actuators then its suitable cost wise.
if u consider about the functionality then also so many factors are there what initial torque u require and what speed of system is
pnmtc is faster and hydraulic is slower thn that. and elctric dpndz on what kind or motor u r using
Question: Which is the best industrial conveyor system in the UK?
Answer: Check out this website: http://amhgroup.co.uk/conveyor.html
Question: ocean conveyor system? Where does the ocean conveyor system begin?
What causes the ocean conveyor system to get going?
Answer: This is earth science question but ill answer anyway.
IT begins technically in the mantle. Aka this process is known as sea floor spreading.
The mantle erupts in deep ocean ridges under water. this builds up and shifts the ocean floor over millions of years. For more information on this question and also more earth science information go to

Hope I helped! (btw my partially finished site)
Question: Examples of capital and labor in terms of factors of production? For capital I have computers and conveyor systems but I need more. For labor I have construction workers and policemen.
Answer: Capital in economics is buildings, machinery, and tools. And labor is just like you said... the people who do the work.
Question: Are there any Windows based Car Wash control systems you can buy? I operate a car wash where the cloth and conveyor are operated by an outdated computer board. I want something I can understand and operate myself.
Thanks
Answer: Check with the manufacturer of different systems. I doubt it though because a car was is not complicated enough to require such an operating system.
It is what we call a 'flow chart process' which uses on and off as yes and no only.
Question: How Sushi Conveyor belts Works, I want to know the internal mechanism driving the sushi.? Hello friend,
I want to know how the sushi conveyor actually works. What is underneath the elegantly moving system?
What is the mechanism of sushi conveyor belt?
I am a student working on a project for conveyor belts.
Thanks
Regards
Answer: Japanese Hamster Wheels, connected via a belt of seaweed. Next time you go to a Sushi restaurant, put your ear on the conveyor belt and you'll hear the patter of tiny feet and the squeek of their happy little conversations, although it'll be in Japanese. Don't leave your ear on the conveyor for too long though, in case it gets eaten by another customer. To be entirely safe, try to make sure you're the only customer there at the time.
Question: How can I check out if a business in Turkey is on the up and up?? We export parts for conveyor belt systems. How can we check out a prospective sales agent we are considering appointing so we don't get scammed? Is there something like the Better Business here in the States we can contact in Turkey??
Answer: Ask the sales agent for references just like you would do here in the United States and check them out. If no references are available, you have your answer.
Question: What are the benefits of using a motorized pulley? 10 points? In the belt conveyor system, I have heard about the motorized pulley that can replace the standard system (head pulley+motor+gearbox+v-belt)....what are the benefits of this motorized pulley over the standard system?
Regards.
Answer: Companies make motorized conveyor rollers where the motor is contained within the roller. It is not only more compact but having the mechanism housed completely within the roller is far safer than having an exposed belt. On the downside, if you need to replace a component, you need to dismantle the whole assembly since it is not readily accessible.
Question: If a Pipe-line was secured to the seabed and filled with liquid Nitrogen would it freeze all the water up to? the surface. I am thinking that maybe something along these lines may limit the damage we are doing to the polar caps, as it could create a solid mass of ice that would be a lot more permanent. It will not obviously stop the climate changes we are seeing but if done correctly may prevent the collapse of the Ocean conveyor system. Any thoughts and ideas along these lines would be appreciated.
Answer: Totally impossible to do what you suggest.
This is basically the same problem as I often gave to my physics class - but on a larger scale...... If you leave the freezer door open over night, will the whole kitchen be frozen solid in the morning? - you will obviously know the answer - but just apply it to to your theory.
Question: We have a pet supply store, how do I easily transfer pet food bags down the 10 steps in our basement? We have a 10 step steep access to the basement and it is kind of dangerous carrying the bags down the steps. If there was a slide or conveyor system but I can't seem to find anything useful on the web. Does anyone already have a similar solution that they use? Thanks, John
Answer: In the short term create some sort of system with long boards and slide them down on ropes or not. Look into finding something like an old coal shoot or a slide made for offloading trucks, possibly an aluminum or plastic slide made from a playground set for children?
Question: can anyone tell me the name of a machine that lifts tiles or slates up onto roof by conveyor system, and a mak
Answer: It called a tile elevator.
Question: what's the best way to relocate a Tuff shed already built on a raised foundation? to another area of my backyard ? Someone once reccommended a conveyor system but I am uncertain as to the cost or availability of that
Answer: Somehow put it on wheels.
